Karachi: 4 held for firing in JMPC emergency ward
KARACHI: Paramilitary soldiers detained four men for resorting to aerial firing in the emergency ward of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Saturday. JPMC Executive Director Dr Seemin Jamali told The News that five injured people were brought to the emergency ward and operation theaters, where one of the injured, Qadeer Khan, succumbed to his wounds during treatment. She said suspicious men barged into the ward and opened fire while doctors were operating on the injured men.
However, Rangers soldiers, deployed at the facility, took immediate action and arrested the miscreants.
The five men had suffered injuries when two groups clashed in the Mini Market of Baloch Colony. Khan was a passer-by and got caught in the crossfire, police said.
The police said some gunmen started threatening vendors in the market on Saturday evening. This angered the vendors, who then tried to overpower the gunmen. The scuffle turned violent when one side opened fire, causing injuries to five people.
Police reached the spot to control the law and order situation. A case has been lodged at the Saddar police station.
