Lahore: Case against Samina Ghurki quashed
LAHORE: Justice M Bilal of the Lahore High Court (LHC) quashed a case against Federal Minister Samina Khalid Ghurki on Tuesday. The case was registered under Section 16 of the maintenance of public order (MPO) and Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) at the Hadyara Police Station in April 2005. Police alleged that Samina attended a procession in violation of Section 144. The petitioner’s counsel, Rashid Lodhi, submitted that to participate in a procession was the democratic right of a political worker.
He said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers took out a procession to receive Asif Ali Zardari at the airport, and that they had not committed any crime.
He said that the case was registered against the PPP workers as part of the then government campaign to victimise the opposition parties. He requested the court to quash the case.
