Lahore: 5 held for attack on Nawani’s house
LAHORE: The Crime Investigations Department (CID) officials on Tuesday claimed to have arrested five people accused of being involved in planning a suicide attack on the house of PML-N MNA Rasheed Akber Nawani. In a handout issued, the CID officials claimed that the suicide attack on Niwani’ house was the result of a monetary dispute. Those arrested for planning the attack were identified as Waqas Hussain, Dr Nazar Hussain, Muhammad Arif, Muhammad Amjad and Saeed Amjad, residents of district Bhakkar. CID Officials claimed that accused Waqas Hussain and one Ijaz Hussain, who also became a victim of the same suicide attack, were fast friends but they got involved in a clash with each other when Ijaz Hussain borrowed Rs2,145,000 on high interest rate to start a business of sale and purchase of cars.
The officials claimed that Waqas bore a serious loss in the business and in order to adjust his debt, he provided Ijaz Hussain with seven high-valued vehicles but still Ijaz Hussain demanded Rs5,400,000 from Waqas, which caused their enmity. Both parties started filing different cases against each other. Meanwhile, Dr Nazar Hussain, father of Waqas Hussain, requested one Arif, a reported scoundrel of the area, to help them in getting a case of kidnapping of Waqas registered against Ijaz Hussain, which was lodged at the Darya Khan Police Station, district Bhakhar, under sections 342 and 343 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). Ijaz Hussain, after finding himself involved in the kidnapping case, took up the matter in Panchait, headed by Rashid Akber Nawani. The PML-N leader gathered the locals of the area at his house, listened both the parties and announced a date of August 6, 2008.
Meanwhile, Waqas and his father again contacted Arif and asked him to solve their problem with Ijaz Hussain ‘in his own style’. Arif suggested Waqas and his father to hire a suicide bomber from the Northern Areas to get Ijaz Hussain killed. The accused also tried to take advantage of sectarian violence between Shiite and Sunny sects in their area as PML-N leader belonged to the Shia sect. Waqas, Dr Nazar and Arif, after finalising the plan, went to the Tank in order to meet Haji Jaan Muhammad Wazeer, a resident of Wana. From Tank, two men of Haji Jaan Muhammad finally took them to Haji Jaan Muhammad Wazeer in Wana, who promised that he would send a suicide bomber and an expert of explosives along with them for a suicide attack at Nawani’s residence after getting Rs1,200,000.
Only a day before the attack on Nawani’s house, Haji Jaan Muhammad Wazir handed over the suicide bomber and an explosives expert to Arif, who later, on Nov 5, 2008, handed over the two alleged terrorists to Waqas at Adda Daji, district Bhakhar, along with jacket, carrying explosives.
