Rawalpindi: Suspected killer flees from CIA custody
RAWALPINDI: A kidnapping and murder suspect escaped from the Crime Investigation Agency’s (CIA) custody late on Sunday. The escapee, Muhammad Adil, was among the four alleged kidnappers/killers of Haji Majeed. The CIA had traced him a week ago and handed him over to police. Three days later, the agency secured his custody for interrogation at its offices. Police sources said Adil requested the guards including constables Imran, Gulfraz and Maqsood to unfasten handcuffs for night prayers. They said the guards removed the handcuffs but didn’t properly fasten them after he offered prayers. So, Adil escaped late night.
It’s also learnt that SP (Investigation) RanaShahid has ordered re–arrest of the escapee in four days without suspending any policeman. City Police Officer RaoIqbal confirmed the murder suspect’s escape but said the fugitive was in police custody for interrogation and wasn’t formally arrested.
He said the CIA officials, responsible for the incident, had been entrusted with the escapee’s early arrest.
Akmal and Zahid are among the arrested man’s accomplices, who are at large. They are charged with kidnapping Haji Majeed 14 months ago, killing him and dumping the body in Taxila.
