Karachi: 4 get life term in kidnapping case
KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) sentenced four kidnappers, including a woman, to life imprisonment after finding them guilty of kidnapping a boy for ransom. Sultan Zaib, Israil, Noor Bacha and ParveenAkhtar were prosecuted for kidnapping four-year-old SherDil from Quaidabad on July 2, 2007. According to the prosecution, the defendants had demanded Rs2.1 million in ransom from SherDil’s family. The police said the kidnappers took the boy to NWFP and he was released after his father paid the ransom. The kidnappers were arrested later and they disclosed their involvement in the case. The prosecution produced eight witnesses in support of its case. Special Public Prosecutor Mohammad Taseer Khan contended that the prosecution had produced sufficient evidence to prove the guilt of the accused.
The ATC, headed by Judge Abdul GhafoorMemon, observed that the prosecution proved its case beyond any shadow of doubt and convicted the four people under kidnapping for ransom charges.
The court also ordered the attachment of moveable and immovable properties of the defendants to the state. Four other kidnapping for ransom cases are also pending against the defendants before the ATC.
