Karachi: Kidnapper held, abductees recovered
KARACHI: The staff of the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) has arrested an Afghan kidnapper from Manghopir and also recovered two children he had abducted. SSP Farooq Awan of AVCC said that a few months back a case was registered at the Al–Falah police station by Ghulam Mustafa Shah in which he had stated that he was the resident of Millat Town, Al–Falah and was working at a private firm as a manager. On September 4, his daughter Kiran and son Ahmed Mustafa were outside their house when some unidentified armed men kidnapped them. Later they received a call on his cellphone and the unidentified kidnappers demanded Rs10 million as ransom. They also registered a case at the Al–Falah police station and informed the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) and started investigation. During negotiations they settled the ransom amount at Rs0.2 million and the kidnappers told them to wait for their call for the delivery.
SSP Awan said that after the passage of one month no call was received from the kidnappers. Late Friday night, a call was received from the kidnappers and the police managed to trace them.
The police team called the staff of AVCC and CPLC and conducted a raid in Manghopir. After some resistance they arrested the kidnapper Naseem, an Afghan national. During search of the hideout they also recovered the abducted brother and sister who were tied up by the kidnappers with ropes.
The kidnappers and abducted children were taken to the police station and the children were handed over to their family.
