Karachi: Man indicted by jirga recovered
KARACHI: A police party from Korangi Town recovered a man who was about to be killed on the orders of a jirga for allegedly having illicit relations with a married woman. A case was reported at the Zaman Town police station. SSP Athar Rasheed Butt of Korangi Town said that a man identified as Fida Gul came to his office late Friday night and informed him that his brother, 24–year-old Rahim Gul, had not returned home after leaving for work in the morning, and had been abducted by unidentified people.
During investigation, the police came to know early Saturday morning that Rahim Gul was confined in a house in Mehran Town, and SHO Zaman Town Pervaiz Ali Shah was directed to conduct an immediate raid.
A man called Abdul Rehman was arrested after some resistance. During a search of the house, the police found Rahim Gul tied with thick iron chains which were covered in blood. He was lying unconscious on the floor, and had been brutally tortured by his kidnappers. The police immediately shifted him to a hospital and took Rehman to the police station.
During interrogation, Rehman said that Rahim Gul had illicit relations with a woman who fled after she came to know that Rahim had been kidnapped. Meanwhile, a jirga had passed an order to kill Rahim Gul, Rehman said.
SSP Butt maintained however that Rahim Gul was innocent and was falsely implicated in the case.
