Karachi: Gang of robber ‘housemaids’ busted
KARACHI: The Police Defense Investigation Cell nabbed a gang of 13–housemaids involved in robberies throughout the country, while recovering jewellery and other household items. The women were arrested from different parts of the city after the police received a tip off on Tuesday. Police carried out extensive investigation and knew that a group of female robbers was working as housemaids in different parts of the city and who had conducted robberies with their male accomplices. The police team led by the Defence SPO Asghar Shah, raided a house located in Azamabad, Bhitiabad and arrested the gang leader Rehana and Uzma alias Guddo, recovering the looted goods as well.
Other members of the busted gang include Kiran, Bakhtawar, Shehzadi, Zahida, Alia, Rukhsana, Irshad Begum, Mehwish, Shehla and Shamim, who were arrested by the police.
Police investigation revealed that the gang leaders Rehana and Uzma picked up needy women from various villages and offered them jobs in the city. “With the promise of a better life and job, these women were trained and placed in posh areas of Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi and Quetta as housemaids. These women then looted the house goods and provided information to the male members of the gang,” said a police official. Police says that these women have robbed many houses in Darakhsan, Baloch Colony, Aziz Bhatti and Gulberg areas where cases have been lodged in police stations. The owners of looted houses have identified the women involved in robberies while the police are carrying on with the search for other members of the gang.
