Lahore: Man shot dead, son injured on way to court
LAHORE: Unidentified motorcyclists shot dead a man and injured his son in the limits of Islampura Police station near a school when they were going to appear before a court on Tuesday. Indiscriminate firing created panic among the students of the school and they later lodged a protest demanding arrest of the criminals. The deceased was identified as Malik Muneer, a resident of Band Road, whereas his injured son was identified as Imran. The police said that the victim had old enmity with Ilyas, Riaz and others, residents of Mozang Area. Few years ago, he had killed a friend of his rivals due to which the police arrested him and sent him to the jail.
Couple of months ago, the victim got bail from a court and he in order to avoid his old rivals, started living in his village whereas he rented a flat in Abdali Chowk in order to stay their while attending consecutive court proceedings of his case.
On the day of incident, the victim was going to appear before the court along with his son Imran on a motorcycle.
As he reached near Chishti High School in Islampura Area, unidentified armed accused approached him from behind and opened indiscriminate fire on him due to which he and his son received multiple bullet wounds on different parts of their bodies.
Some locals informed Edhi officials, who after reaching the scene rushed them to a nearby hospital where Muneer succumbed to his bullet injuries while doctors stated his son to be in critical condition.
Meanwhile, due to the indiscriminate firings, bullets damaged the boundary wall of the school and also created panic among its students. The students and teachers, when firing stopped, came out of the school and lodged protest against the lawlessness in the city and demanded the immediate arrest of the criminals.
Meanwhile, the Islampura Police registered a case and started investigating the matter in this regard.
