Karachi: Remand extended for kidnapping and murder suspects
KARACHI: Administrative Judge (AJ) of the Anti–Terrorism Courts (ATC) in Karachi extended the police remand of two suspects who have been arrested for alleged involvement in the kidnapping and murder case of a 12–year–old girl. Mohammad Ayub and Ahsan are accused of kidnapping 12–year–old Kulsoom from Mochko and later killing her. Investigation officer (IO) RanaIshrat said that Ayub, who was also the tutor of the girl, kidnapped her from her residence on December 21 and kept her in unlawful custody and demanded Rs300,000 from her father for her release.
After failing to receive the ransom amount, the accused killed the girl on December 23 and dumped her body in a water tank at an under-construction house. He said that the accused kept demanding ransom from Kulsoom’s father even after her death. Later, the police arrested him and recovered Kulsoom’s body.
The IO sought further extension of police remand since the investigation was under way and the police had to collect evidence against the accused. The AJ granted the request, and extended the police remand of the suspects till January 13, directing the IO to produce them at the next date of hearing.
