Karachi: Fake degree awarded to Balochistan MNA
KARACHI: A Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree, issued by the University of Karachi (KU) to MNA Yaqoob from Balochistan, has been found to be fake. The Enquiry Committee formed to investigate the authenticity of the degree has suggested, on Prima Facie, stern departmental action against officials in the Enrolment, Degree and Tabulation sections and the teacher of the college which colluded in the issuance of the degree. Former Federal Education Minister Zubaida Jalal had written a letter to KU in March 2007 requesting to check the authenticity of the degree.
KU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Dr Pirzada Qasim had formed an Enquiry Committee to investigate the matter. The Committee comprised Prof. Asim Jamal of the Statistics department and Dr Shakeel Farooqui from the Department of Genetics.
A reliable source told The News that the report has been submitted to the VC and it says that Yaqoob was not registered at the university but the Assistant Controller of Examinations issued an Enrolment Card to him. The mark sheet that carries the stamp of the Assistant Controller of Examination is also of dubious nature. The Committee has requested the VC to refer the case to the KU Syndicate for secret departmental action through the FIA against the perpetuators of the crime without putting the case up for a ‘Media Trial’.
The News tried to contact Zubaida Jalal but several calls to her cell phone went answered. An SMS requesting her version of the story also remained unanswered.
