Karachi: Traffic policeman arrested for abetting charge-sheet fraud
KARACHI: A traffic police vigilance team caught a group, which included a traffic police official, for using fake National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) stamps on already-issued charge-sheet in return for a 50 per cent bribe, The News has learnt. This was done so that offenders could submit the charge-sheet and recover driving licenses or registration books which had been confiscated by the police for traffic violations. Investigations said that the group was led by a man named Papu Shah, and was assisted by Chand. Head Constable of Preedy Traffic Section, Asif Yaseen, was supplying them with charge-sheets for the purpose of using fake stamps. All three were sent to jail custody, and Preedy Police are conducting further investigations.
Sources said that the DIG traffic received and acted upon several complaints received regarding this particular group. A vigilance team, headed by Inspector Iqbal Tanoli, was constituted, which conducted a raid in response to a complaint. One of the group members was arrested by the Preedy Police Station, and upon his identification, the police also arrested other members of the group. In response to a question, sources said that the complaints were made in general.
