Rawalpindi: Goods worth Rs5 million recovered, 13 arrested
RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Police, busting four gangs involved in street crimes, have arrested 13 gangsters and recovered valuables, including cash and gold, to the tune of Rs5 million. Police also recovered firearms used during rampages and mobile phone sets snatched from various localities of the city. City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Rao Muhammad Iqbal in a press conference here Wednesday said that the crime would be abolished from Rawalpindi by launching stringent crackdowns against the criminals. The CPO said that 13 members of four gangs, active in different areas of Rawalpindi, have been arrested while their five aides were being hunted.
Taking notice of the increasing incidents of robberies, armed dacoities, mobile phone and purse snatchings, he asked SSP (Operation) Sardar Maqsood Khan to adopt counter strategy for combating the street crimes, Rao Iqbal said adding that the different teams were constituted with tasks to abolish such crimes from the city.
A team, headed by SDP (Civil Line Circle) and SHO (Airport) Inspector Abdur Rasheed, making a headway busted a 5-member gang and arrested two of them — Naseem Abbas (ringleader) and Shahid Rana resident of Mari Sahu, Kabirwala (Khanewal) — and recovered cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs2.5 million from their possession, the CPO said.
He said that Naseem Abbas was employee of Military Engineering Joint Staff, adding that he visited his village in October 2008 and met Muhammad Abid who was heading a criminals’ gang along with Nadeem and Muhammad Akhtar alias Kaodu and planned to expand their criminal activities up to Rawalpindi. The 5-member gang, consequently, shifted to Rawalpindi and started rampages, he said.
The gangsters confessed of committing five offences during the last four months, the DIG said. Rao Iqbal, giving details of the second breakthrough, said that the Airport Police also busted another 5-member gang and arrested all its members belonging to different cities of the Punjab and NWFP. The police also recovered valuables from their custody. The gangster were identified as Muhammad Ileyas (54, Lane-3, Gulistan Colony, Rawalpindi), Khurram Shahzad, Maqsood Anwar (Chak–54 (RB), Faisalabad), Ifrahim (Kalian Tararhan, Haripur) and Ahmad Ali (Chak 17–JB, Faisalabad), the DIG said adding that the gangster hit places in Rawalpindi.
The third gang, busted by the Airport Police, was comprising of two members — Hamid Masih and Asif Masih (Christian Colony, Iqbal Town, Islamabad). The police recovered cash, mobile phone sets and other valuables from their custody, the DIG said.
While, the same police arrested four gangsters — Mudassar Abbas (Nadeem Colony, Dhoke Chiraghdin, Rawalpindi), Tariq Mehmood (Qaziabad, Dhoke Chiraghdin, Rawalpindi), Muhammad Saqib (Khala Butt, Murree) and Muhammad Asad (Railway Crossing, Dhoke Chiraghdin, Rawalpindi) — of six-member gang of street criminals and recovered over one million rupees in cash, gold ornaments worth Rs600,000, firearms and 17 mobile phone sets from their possession, the CPO said.
