Karachi: 5 wanted robbers held in DHA
KARACHI: The Defence police on Thursday arrested five robbers who had been on the loose since 2006. During a routine patrol, the Defence police, after an encounter, arrested Khalid, Aslam, Tariq, Tahir and Mushtaq near a shopping centre located in Phase 1, DHA. DSP Asghar Ali Shah told Daily Times that police also recovered five TT pistols, a car and Rs 0.25 million from their possession. “The arrested men are professional robbers and had fled from Lahore in 2006,” Shah said, adding that the criminals had been on the loose since 2006 and were wanted by the Punjab Police in more than 20 robbery cases. He said that the gang had been involved in various robbery cases in Karachi as well.
Meanwhile, the West Zone Investigation Police arrested three persons involved in various street crimes and the murder of a policeman. The arrested men are Bahar alias Asif, Kashif alias Makora and Junaid. SSP Khurram Waris told Daily Times that their arrests were made after raids in North Karachi and Gulberg Town. One of their accomplices, namely Emran, managed to evade arrest. Waris said that they were professional criminals and one of their associates, Nooro, was killed in 2002 during a police encounter in Model Colony, in which a police official was also killed. The police said that cases have been registered against the criminals and further investigations are underway.
