Karachi: Sohrab Goth encounter FIR lodged and sealed
KARACHI: The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) has registered a case at the Sohrab Goth police station against militants belonging to Taliban groups after the Thursday morning encounter which left several law–enforcement officials dead and injured others. The FIR has been sealed on the orders of senior officers. Police sources said that the FIR was lodged on the complaint of Inspector Babar of the AVCC. Fifteen people have been accused of murder, attempt–to–murder, police encounter and anti–terrorist acts.
Inspector Babar in his complaint states that he along with senior police officers and officials of the AVCC was busy in patrolling in connection with the investigation of a of kidnapping for ransom case lodged at the SITE police station. The senior police officials received information regarding the presence of terrorists in Mohammadan Plaza situated at the Sohrab Goth super market.
Acting on the tip-off, officers raided the place when suddenly 15 men [nominated in the FIR] and others opened indiscriminate fire from both sides with the intention to kill. Head Constable (HC) Fayyaz Ahmed and Police Constable (PC) Akhtar Munir of AVCC died on the spot, while SSP Mohammed Farooq Awan Chief of the AVCC, Assistant Sub–Inspector (ASI) Ajmir, ASI Ashfaq Khattak, ASI Muzaffar Hussain, HC Rashid Khan, HC Mumtaz Khan, PC Sarwer, and PC Mudasir Iqbal were injured. Meanwhile, the accused men succeeded in fleeing.
Sources maintained that the investigation staff have conducted raids and arrested some suspects belonging to various militant outfits. No arrest was, however, shown in this regard.
Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza has visited the injured police officers and officials at the Aga Khan Hospital. He directed that steps be taken for the welfare of the families of the martyred police officers and that the families should continue to receive their salaries till the age of retirement of these officers.
