Karachi: Man arrested with 6 kg of heroin
KARACHI: The staff of the Drug Enforcement Cell (DFC) arrested a Pakistani passenger, Rauf Ali, at the terminal of the Jinnah International Airport on Sunday. Ali was leaving for Bangkok by Thai Air (flight no. TG-342). Six kilogrammes of heroin concealed in the top and bottom of his suitcase were also recovered, Chief Media Liaison Officer for Customs, Qamar Thalho, said. He told The News that the suspect belongs to district Gilgit and works at a factory in Korangi. Ali said that he worked at a factory which revamps precious stones.
“We also participate in international exhibitions outside Pakistan and supply stones on order,” Ali said. “During our last visit, someone stole our stones worth more than Rs0.25 million and replaced them with plastic stones. It was a huge loss.”
A person then came to the factory and advised Ali to smuggle heroin to recover the loss. The man offered him Rs0.3 million for transporting the suitcase to Bangkok, Ali told the DFC. An FIR has been lodged and further investigation is under way.
