2 carjackers arrested in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: The Anti–Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) of Islamabad Capital Territory Police arrested two carjackers and recovered two vehicles from them after an encounter near Brahama Bahatar (Motorway Toll Plaza) on Thursday morning, police said. One of the carjackers was wounded during the encounter and shifted to hospital, police added. Police said that Hanan Nawaz, a resident of House no. 1126, Street 42, I-10/2, informed the Rescue–15 that his Toyota Corolla car (2007 model) bearing registration number (LX-041-ICT) was stolen on Thursday morning at about 6:45 a.m.
The Sabzi Mandi Police, after lodging an FIR, informed the ACLC, the police spokesman said. SP (Investigation) Sajid Kiyani was assigned the task to trace the carjackers who alerted police pickets at the Motorway Chowk and Tarnol.
The policemen deputed near the Toll Plaza saw the car near ‘Brahama Bahatar’ and tried to stop it which was accompanied by another car (RIY–8455). The other carjackers boarded the second car (RIY–8455) and tried to escape. However, the Motorway Police stopped the car at some distance and overpowered one of the carjackers later identified as Javed Gul of Khyber Agency. The other carjacker made his escape good from the scene. Police impounded the vehicle (RIY–8455).
Police teams have been dispatched to Peshawar to arrest other members of the gang. IGP (Islamabad) Qalab–e–Abbas and SSP Islamabad Captain (r) Ahmed Latif have appreciated the performance of ACLC and Motorway Police. Cash prizes and commendation certificates were announced for them.
