Karachi: Police arrested 8,335 POs in 2008
KARACHI: Sindh police have arrested dozens of notorious dacoits and kidnappers for ransom during an operation cleanup launched in various parts of interior Sindh, a spokesman of the provincial police department revealed to The Nation here on Thursday. He said that a total of 26 notorious criminals had been arrested from various districts of interior Sindh whereas two bandits, Dost Muhammad Misrani alias Dosoo and Soharb Chandio were killed in encounters in Sukkur and Larkana districts respectively.
The Sindh police had launched operations on the hideouts of dacoits in interior Sindh during the last year and, resultantly, many inaccessible areas such as Shah Bhelo Forest, Johi Forest, Raunti Forest, Keti Mumtaz and Sharifpur were cleaned up during these campaigns besides arresting the most wanted dacoits.
Some of the criminals arrested during those operations included Budho Sarki having Rs 3.5 million as head money, Sadiq Narejo alias Sadhoo with Rs 3 million head money, Momin Jurio and Ameer Shah having Rs 1 million head money each.
Prominent among other arrested dacoits were Abdul Qayyum Chandio, Qurban Chandio, Talib Narejo, Raz Muhammad, Ayaz Jeho, Shaman Ghaloo and Naseer Unar. Each of these seven dacoits had Rs 0.5 million head money on their arrest. However, Noor Muhammad alias Nooral, Ameer Ali, Imam Dino, Ameer Shah, Barkat and some others were also arrested from various districts of interior Sindh.
The spokesman further said that police had launched a special campaign for the arrest of these proclaimed offenders/absconders and recovered huge quantity of sophisticated weapons during the operations.
“The mission was accomplished successfully and police arrested 735 proclaimed offenders, 7,300 absconders and 42 rifles and 1,008 other weapons during the campaign. Moreover, kidnapping for ransom in interior Sindh, which had created panic among the citizens, was effectively curbed after the notorious culprits involved in this crime were either killed or arrested“, he revealed.
The spokesman continued that accused Adloo Soomro, Nawaz alias Launcher and Rasool Bux alias Major Khoso were killed in Thatta district during an encounter while Manzoor Magsi and Ghulam Haider Marri were arrested in Hyderabad. The last two criminals were wanted in the kidnapping of DG Highways Munawar Junejo. Police also arrested around 37 abductors from various parts of the province busted 28 gangs involved in highway robberies and recovered huge quantity of weapons from their possession.
