Karachi: 3-member gang of robbers nabbed
KARACHI: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) busted a three–member gang of robbers who used to impersonate CID personnel and were wanted by the police in a number of house and street robberies. Mohammed Fayyaz Khan of CID (Sindh) said that several complaints were received from citizens about some CID personnel who had been committing robberies. An inquiry was initiated to trace the suspects. During the course of investigation it was found that a gang of robbers had been impersonating CID personnel and committing robberies as well as misbehaving with the women.
Following the receipt of a tip that the gang was present in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, a team of the CID police conducted a raid and arrested Salman Niazi, Amanullah Abbasi alias Haji and Kashif alias Kashi, after an encounter. Three TT pistols were also recovered.
During interrogation the suspects disclosed that they used to commit robberies late at night by impersonating CID personnel.
They had been robbing people coming out of banks and those carrying heavy amounts of money. They disclosed that they were now planning to kidnap businessmen and bank officers for ransom.
SSP Khan said that the suspects were wanted at various police stations of the city in a number of armed robbery cases and they were arrested several times but were bailed out. Further investigation is under way.
