Lahore: 2 car lifters killed in ‘encounter’
LAHORE: The Anti–Vehicle Lifting Staff of Model Town police division on Monday killed two criminals, involved in more than 49 incidents of car lifting and other crimes, during an alleged encounter and recovered a stolen car and two pistols from them. SP CRO Jahanzeb Nazir Khan had constituted a special team to arrest the criminals.
On a tip-off, Anti–vehicle Lifting Staff In–charge Inspector Rashid Amin Butt started checking vehicles at a picket at 3am near the Government College of Commerce, Hunza Block, Iqbal Town. Meanwhile, a white car reached there from the Main Boulevard and police signaled it to stop. At this, the criminals opened a fire at the police, who retaliated the fire and an encounter started.
Crossfire continued for more than 20 minutes after which, the two criminals, who were found dead in the car. One was sitting on the driving seat and the other on rear seat while there one accomplice managed to escape from the crime scene.
Those killed were later identified as Suhail Ahmad alias Asif and Maqbool Ahmad alias Fauji. Police recovered two pistols, three mobile phones, four number plates and Rs640 while the car (LWR-1288) was also recovered. A case No 371/08 of the car theft was registered with the Gawalmandi Police Station. Iqbal Town police have registered a case against the criminals. CCPO Muhammad Pervaiz Rathore has announced cash prizes and commendatory certificates for police raiding team.
