Rs 1.1 million looted from bank
Karachi: Five armed men on Wednesday robbed Rs1.1 million from a bank in the Gulberg police limits besides depriving the bank staff and customers of cell phones and other valuables.
According to police and eyewitnesses, five men carrying TT pistols entered the National Saving Bank in Block-4 in Gulberg and made the staff hostage at gunpoint and decamped with the looted money.
Interestingly, at the time of the robbery, the guard posted at the bank was stamping bank papers with his rifle lying beside him, but he failed to put up any resistance.
The robbers reportedly also looted the staff and customers. The whole episode reportedly continued for eight minutes.
Sarfaraz Khan, the bank manager, said that the robbers looted Rs1.1 million from the bank besides snatching five cell phones from the staff.
The police lodged an FIR. Station House Officer (SHO) Gulberg, Iqbal Raza Sheikh, said that they have collected some evidences from the spot besides recording statements of the eyewitnesses and the bank staff.
He said that assistance had also been sought from experts to draw sketches of the suspects. Further probe is under way, The News reported.
