Non-bailable arrest warrants for lawyer slapping judge
LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) issued Thursday non-bailable arrest warrants against the lawyer who slapped a civil judge in Faisalabad.
The News reported Friday that the bench consisting of Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed directed SHO police station Kotwali, Faisalabad to arrest Liaqat Javed and produce him before the court on March 30.
The bench had issued contempt of court notice Wednesday to the lawyer for appearance with direction to district police officer (DPO) Faisalabad to ensure the compliance of the order.
On Thursday, police informed the court that summons was duly served on the lawyer but the he did not turn up.
Liaqat Javed had appeared before Civil Judge Tariq Mehmood Kahoot and complained that a court bailiff had taken into custody his client Shehzad Mehmood, the accused in a loan default case, although he had deposited the money.
The judge after reading the record said that the defendant’s lawyer contention could not be entertained as there was no record of receipt of payment. This infuriated the lawyer and he started abusing the judge. He then sprinted to the dais and slapped the judge repeatedly.
