Three sent to jail in Yemeni businessman kidnapping case
Karachi: The administrative judge (AJ) of Anti Terrorism Courts in Karachi sent three suspects, facing charges of kidnapping a Yemeni businessman, to jail and directed the investigation officer to submit charge-sheet against them.
The AJ, however, accepted police report, dropping abduction charges against two suspects as their involvement in the case could not be proved. Police had arrested five suspects Hakim Ali, Shaukat, Rashid, Hasan and Noor Hasan for kidnapping Yemeni businessman Mohammad Abdul Qaid. Police said that absconding co-accused Jan Baloch, Moosa, Noor Bux and Yahya kidnapped the businessman who had come to Karachi in June 2008 on a business trip.
Police said that the kidnappers kept the abductee as hostage in different places and he was recovered from a house from Gulshan-e-Maymar area. Police said that the accused took US$3600 and 1,00,000 Saudi riyal besides other valuables from the abductee and further demanded US$3 million in ransom for his release.
