ISLAMABAD: As reported by The Nation on Monday, a huge scam of recruitment and awarding scholarships to students in the Higher Education Commission (HEC) was disclosed Sunday. The daily quoted its sources as saying that at least 10 officials were getting salaries worth million of rupees including Executive Director of HEC Dr Sohail Naqvi. The report also revealed that the HEC distributed a better number of scholarships to the students of private universities and ignored students of government institutions.
KARACHI: On a tip-off, Anti Narcotics Force (ANF), Pakistan Customs Preventive and Customs Intelligence raided the Flight No PK-303 of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) on Saturday and seized 6.5 kg of heroin worth Rs65 million, concealed in the ceiling of the toilet at Jinnah International Airport, The Nation reported Sunday. No arrest was made till filing of this report.

LAHORE: Police drained out Model Town and Garhi Shahu areas of Lahore Sunday, in a bid to capture militants in connection with the attacks on worship places of a minority this weekend, and arrested at least 375 suspected militants, the Express News reported Monday. Seven people had attacked the worship places of a minority Friday and killed over 100 people. As a whole, Police arrested 40 suspects from Bheekaywal village, 15 from Samanabad, 10 from Millat Park, 20 from Wahdat Colony, 10 from Muslim Town, 20 from Gulshan-e-Ravi, 15 from Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and 20 from Sanda, most of whom were Pashtuns and Afghans. Later, Police freed some of the suspects after getting their identities checked.

NAWABSHAH: Police raided a hotel in Chakra Bazaar area on a tip-off here Sunday and arrested three people, Anwar Punjabi, Attur Jalbani and Aachar Jalbani, involved in the heinous business of kidnapping and selling women and children, the Dawn News reported Monday.
LAKHI GHULAM SHAH: According to the Daily Kawish, at least 3 persons, identified as Mehboob Sher, Mor alias Lashkari Jatoi, and Nawab Sheikh died and 2 wounded in an indiscriminate firing, when a clash erupted between two groups (Qutub Sher and Jago Sher) of Sher tribe over free will marriage, in the limits of Lakhi Ghulam Shah police station. The injured were Irfan Jatoi (7), and Ghulam Haider Mahar.
WAZIRABAD: In-Charge of City Police Station, Inspector Sanaullah Dhillon raided a house in Wazirabad Sunday, busted a seven-member gang of dacoits and arrested its ringleader Aamer along with his aides, identified as Pervez, Mohammad Ameen Chingar, Navid alias Mithu, Atif alias Goga Jutt, Umair-ul-Hasan alias Sialkotia, and Irfan alias Chuchi Shah, the Express News reported Monday.
