Bloodbath in Lahore: 37 killed in 3 blasts
LAHORE: At least 37 mourners were killed while over 150 others wounded when three back-to-back blasts hit procession rallies in connection with the Youm-e-Ali at the Karbala Gamay Shah on Wednesday, The News reported Thursday. The first blast occurred in front of the gate of Lower Mall Police Station situated opposite Karbala Gamay Shah building at 1855 PST. The blast dispersed the mourners who started to flee towards the Bhatti Gate. Just five minutes later, second blast hit the Ghaznavi Street of Urdu Bazaar’s parking area where a suicide bomber blew himself up when a constable got awareness of his endeavours. Two persons, along with the constable, lost their lives in the blast. The penultimate suicide explosion occurred at the Bhatti Chowk just 13 minutes after the second blast resulted in injuries to many. The mourners got furious on law enforcement agencies’ inability to stop suicide bombers and besieged the Lower Mall Police Station and set ablaze a police truck. The Police resorted to aerial firing and tear-gas shelling to get over the angry mob.
