Gujrat: 2 fugitive lawyers surrender
GUJRAT: The Dawn News reported on Wednesday that two fugitive lawyers wanted in the murder of a marble trader surrendered to the police on Monday in the presence of District Bar Association leaders. Sources told Dawn News that lawyer Naeem Shahzad Sandhu surrendered to SP investigation Raja Abdul Hafeez in the presence of bar leaders and retired police officer Chaudhry Shafqat Ahmad and later on the accused, Nadeem Tahir, also appeared before the Civil Lines police station in the presence of reporters and bar president Badar Warraich. Both lawyers were nominated in the murder of marble trader Tariq Mahmood, of Looran village, who had allegedly been bludgeoned to death by the two lawyers and their three unidentified accomplices on Sept 16 at Mehmda Chowk on Bhimbher Road. A few police officials present at the crime scene allegedly did not rescue Tariq and also let the accused flee from the spot. Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry took suo motu notice of the case on Sept 18 and summoned Inspector General of Police Tariq Saleem Dogar on Sept 24.
