Karachi: CID arrest most-wanted target killer
KARACHI: As reported by the Daily Times on Wednesday, the Anti-Extremism Cell (AEC) of Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a most-wanted killer in New Karachi Sector 5A and recovered illegal weapons from his possession. Police sources said the AEC team headed by SP Omar Shahid and Chaudhry Aslam conducted a raid on a tip-off and arrested the accused identified as Ishtiaq alias Salman alias Policewala after a brief encounter and recovered a Kalashnikov and a 9mm pistol. Shahid said that the culprit during investigation confessed involvement in over 25 killings including those of DSP Rahim Bangash, DSP Nawaz Ranjha, Inspector Nasirul Hassan, Inspector Sajid, Sharif Khan, ASI Maqsood, Mohammad Aslam, Naseem Akhter, Sher Mohammad and Jahangir Mirza. He was also arrested in 1997 by Azizabad police for illegal possession of arms, he added. The SP said the accused was a suspended constable of the police special branch. He joined the police force in 1990 and was suspended the same year, he added. Ishtiaq was leading three groups of target killers operating in Landhi, New Karachi and Liaquatabad and was affiliated with a political party, Shahid said, adding that the police were conducting raids on the information given by the accused.
