Lahore: Ex-land collector jailed for corruption
LAHORE: The News reported on Wednesday that an Accountability Judge Muhammad Falak Sher on Tuesday awarded a 10-year jail to Amjad Hussain Sandal, a former Land Acquisition Collector, on the charge of embezzlement worth millions of Pak Arab Refinery Company (PARCO). The court has also imposed a fine of Rs43.5 million on Sandal while his co-accused Muhammad Hanif has been given five-year jail term. Third accused involved in PARCO scam Muhammad Zahid has also been imprisoned for four years along with a fine of Rs3.18 million. Another accused namely Ghulam Mustafa has been given the benefit of the doubt. Sandal had got his cases cleared under National Reconciliation Ordinance but after scrapping of controversial law by Supreme Court, reference against him stood restored. He was summoned by the NAB court on December 19, 2009 after the apex court’s verdict on NRO. Amjad Hussain Sandal along with other two Muhammad Zahid and Muhammad Hanif were nabbed on the charge of bogus payments in acquiring land for PARCO.
