Bajaur: Forces kill 4 militants, hurt 8
KHAR: As reported by The News on Thursday, four militants were killed and eight others sustained injuries in a fierce clash with the security forces after the insurgents’ bid to take control of two big villages in Mamond subdivision of Bajaur Agency early Wednesday, official sources and eyewitnesses said. “Dozens of militants armed with heavy and automatic weapons entered our village and made announcements from the mosques late night that they had taken control of the area and the residents should vacate their homes,” a tribesman hailing from village Saparay told The News. The sources said the militants also forced their entry into village Bandarai and made similar announcements. The sources said the militants had sneaked into the area from the neighbouring Kunar province of Afghanistan in a bid to take control of Saparay and Bandarai villages in Mamond Tehsil. Following the unexpected development, Mamond Lashkar, Bajaur Levies and the security forces backed by gunship helicopters and artillery guns swiftly moved into the area and started action against the militants. The sources said a fierce clash erupted between militants and security forces that lasted several hours. The militants fled towards Afghanistan after the clash, the sources said.
