Landikotal: Blast kills 2 passengers
LANDIKOTAL: According to The News, two passengers were burnt to death and fourteen trucks including containers and oil-tankers were destroyed in four consecutive blasts at Khyber Zakhakhel and on the Pak-Afghan border at Torkham in Khyber Agency Thursday, officials and tribal sources said. The sources said the first blast took place at 7 p.m. when a time bomb went off in an oil-tanker on the Pak-Afghan Highway at Khyber Zakhakhel village in Landikotal tehsil. Two oil-tankers, a van, a trailer truck loaded with cement and another truck caught fire and were burnt to ashes, sources said. Two passengers in the van identified as Inshaad son of Jarobi Afridi and an Afghan national Ahmad Gul, resident of Pikhy Khwar were burnt alive in the blast. Their bodies were later shifted to the Landikotal hospital. Electricity supply was suspended to Khyber Zakhakhel area as the transmission line was burnt in the blast. As the blasts were heard far and wide, the Frontier Corps and Khassadar Force personnel rushed to the site and cordoned off the area. They started extinguishing the fire, official sources said. Fifty minutes later, three more blasts occurred in oil-tankers on the Torkham-Landikotal Road. The first two blasts took place in two oil-tankers in the parking lot near the Torkham border, the sources said. The oil-tankers were waiting to cross the border into Afghanistan. However, no casualty was reported in the incident.Four oil-tankers and eight containers loaded with consignments for US and Nato forces and for private parties, also caught fire and were destroyed, sources said. Meanwhile, a powerful bomb blew up another oil-tanker near Sur More near Michni checkpost on the Torkham-Landikotal Road. The fire engulfed five other oil-tankers. However, no casualty was reported. The Torkham-Landikotal Road including link roads were closed for traffic as the authorities were clearing it after those series of bomb explosions.
