Ill-famed mobster caught from Karachi
KARACHI: As reported by The News on Sunday, the Anti-Extremism Cell (AEC) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Sindh has arrested a notorious gangster along with his companion from Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Saturday. The police also recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunitions from their possession. SSP Mohammed Aslam Khan of the AEC received information that wanted gangster Abdul Rauf Baloch and one of his associate who were involved in the Lyari gang war and other crimes of heinous nature were hiding in a place in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. On receiving the tip, the SSP along with his team conducted a raid at a house situated near Hassan Square and after some resistance arrested Abdul Rauf Baloch and his companion Iqbal alias Captain. The AEC staff also recovered two Kalashnikovs from them. After the successful raid, the accused were shifted to the investigation unit for interrogation.
During probe, Abdul Rauf disclosed that he had been hiding huge quantity of arms and ammunition in a place in Golimar area. On his information, the personnel of the AEC conducted another raid and recovered a huge quantity of arms and explosives, including one LMG, five Kalashnikovs, two rifles, two TT pistols, eight hand grenades, 10 kilogrammes of hashish and bullets from the spot. While addressing a press conference, SSP Khan said that accused Rauf Baloch was a key member of the Lyari gang war and he was working for notorious gangster Ghaffar Zikri. ‘Baloch was involved in kidnapping traders for ransom, murder and extortion cases. Rauf Baloch also supported land mafia in Karachi and in the past he had also worked for terrorist organisation like ‘Al-Zulfiqar’” SSP Khan said. SSP Aslam claimed that Baloch was trained in one of neighbouring country of Pakistan. His two brothers — Amjad and Sajid – had been killed in gang war and police encounter.
Investigators added that Abdul Rauf Baloch was a former UC-10 Nazim in Lyari and known gangster Baba Ladla had attacked his house after the death of Rehman Dakait on suspicion of providing information to the police regarding presence of Dakait in Karachi. Later, fearing for his life he fled to Dubai and returned to the city two months back. He started residing in Malir and formed his own group with the intention to counter rival gangsters in Lyari and Gulshan-e-Iqbal. They said that the arrested accused is being investigated regarding his involvement in attack on a police mobile in which four police officers were killed, while Shoaib Khan (underworld don) remained unhurt. Moreover, he is also under investigation in a murder case of a police officer Malik Ehsan who was shot dead by armed men near old CIA Centre, Saddar. Meanwhile, sources said that the CID personnel are also investigating Rauf Baloch for having links with police officers and builders. Further probe is underway.
