Karachi: Bandits kill chasing youth
KARACHI: As reported by The News on Thursday, a young man was shot dead as he chased bandits in Surjani Town police limits on Wednesday morning. According to police, the area residents managed to overpower the alleged criminals and thwarted them. Sharing details, police said that Wajid Sheikh, 23, was shot dead in Sector-7D, North Karachi, Surjani Town. Investigation by the police revealed that on Wednesday morning, four armed bandits broke into the house of Iqbal, situated in the above mentioned area and started looting. The bandits also misbehaved with the ladies of the house when the men resisted. Meanwhile, the women screamed for help. On hearing the shouts, area residents gathered outside Iqbal’s house. Seeing the people, the bandits fled from the house on foot. They were chased by young men including Sheikh. To scare the chasing mob, the bandits started firing. A bullet hit Sheikh who was injured and had to be shifted to a hospital. The public however managed to get hold of three bandits while one of them managed to flee. Upon hearing the news that Sheikh has succumbed to his injuries, the public subjected the bandits to torture. In the meantime, Surjani Town police reached the spot and tried to get hold of the bandits. However, the mob refused to relent and said that they wanted to punish the bandits there and then. However, after an hour’s effort, the police managed to shift the bandits to the police station. The three suspects, identified as Hafeez, Zafar and Ali, were wanted by the police in cases pertaining to street crimes and theft. Deceased Sheikh was a resident of Sector-7D, North Karachi. He was single and worked in a private company. A case was reported at the police station and further investigations were underway.
