Karachi: Robber imprisoned for 3 years
KARACHI: As reported by the Dawn News on Thursday, a sessions court on Wednesday sentenced a man to three years in prison in a robbery case. The court found Mohammad Hussain guilty of robbing a man of cash and other valuables in October last year within the remit of the Eidgah police station. The judge, Sagheer Ahmed Sheikh, who conducted the trial inside the Central Prison, pronounced the judgment after recording evidence of witnesses and final arguments from both sides. The convict was also fined Rs5,000 and in case of non-payment of the fine he would undergo an additional six-month imprisonment. The court also extended the benefit of Section 382-B (period of detention to be considered while awarding sentence of imprisonment) of the criminal procedure code to the convict. According to the prosecution, on Oct 10, 2009 the accused along with their absconding accomplices deprived complainant Nasir Ahmed of cash, mobile phone and other valuables at gunpoint. However, a patrolling police party captured the accused when he tried to flee the scene after committing the offence while his accomplices managed to flee. A case (255/2009) was registered under Section 392 (punishment for robbery) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Eidgah police station.
