Karachi: Rs3.5m looted from 2 banks on Sharea Faisal
KARACHI: According to the Dawn News on Saturday, four robbers committed two bank robberies in two separate banks situated in the Sharea Faisal police limits on Friday morning within a span of half an hour. The robbers looted an amount of approximately Rs3.5 million. The departmental heads taking notice of the incident suspended the SHO Sharea Faisal for showing negligence in performing his duty. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, has taken strong notice of the two consecutive bank robberies in the East Zone of the city and sought a report from the CCPO Karachi besides issuing order for the arrest of the criminals involved in these incidents.
He instructed the CCPO Karachi Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari to conduct a probe into the incidents and take action against those police personnel and officials for showing negligence in performing their duty. Police sources said that on Friday at about 9:45am four armed bandits riding on two motorcycles stopped in front of the Soneri Bank situated in Gulshan-i-Jamal in the Sharea Faisal police limits. They said that on reaching the gate of the bank the suspects pointed their pistol at the security guard Nazeer, snatched his repeater and entered the bank. They made hostage the bank staff and within a short span of five minutes they looted Rs2.29 million from the bank. The bandits also beat the bank staff and snatched their cell phones and cash and fled. A case was lodged on complaint of the bank manager Abdul Sattar. The police team of Sharea Faisal on receiving information about the bank robbery immediately rushed to the bank and started gathering information and recording statements of the eyewitnesses.
In the meantime, the police team received information that another bank was robbed by outlaws near the National Stadium. They went there and found that four armed men had looted the United Bank Limited. Police sources said that it was at about 10:15am when four armed bandits driving a Toyota Corolla stopped near the bank. They first snatched the repeater from the security guard Ali Asghar and broke into the bank. They added that the bandits went to the locker with the cashier and looted Rs1.47 million and fled. While escaping they took with them the security cameras, footage tapes and other objects. Police has lodged an FIR on complaint of the bank manager Abdul Hameed. SP Shad Ibn-i-Masih of Shah Faisal Town said that they had taken notice of the negligence of the staff of Sharea Faisal police station and had initiated an inquiry. They also suspended the SHO Sharea Faisal Rustam Nawaz with immediate effect. He added that the two bank robberies were committed by two separate groups as the first group of dacoits who had looted the Soneri Bank were on motorcycles and had used TT pistols. After committing the offence while fleeing they threw the repeater of the guard a few yards away from the bank. Furthermore, the police had taken into custody the video footages and started investigating. SP Masih said that in the United Bank Limited they had also found some video footage of the suspects who seemed to be locals. He added that the suspects in the UBL robbery were in a Corolla and had also used TT pistols. However, investigation is under way and soon the criminals would be nabbed.
