Karachi: 2 gunned down
KARACHI: As reported by the Dawn News on Monday, two government servants were gunned down by unidentified assailants in an apparent incident of targeted killing within the remit of the New Town police station late on Sunday. Police said that Mohammad Osama and Munibur Rehman were travelling in a car bearing registration number (AGS-613) on main University Road when they were targeted near the old Sabzi Mandi close to the office of DIG East in front of the Askari Park. Two suspects riding a motorcycle intercepted the car and opened fire at Mohammad Osama and Munibur Rehman, the police said. The victims suffered multiple bullet wounds in the head and the chest and died on the spot, they said. The police said that Mohammad Osama was a clerk in the provincial home department while Munibur Rehman who was an employee in the city government was posted in the Jamshad Town. The police said that the attackers used the 9mm pistol to kill the bearded victims. Following the incident, police shifted the bodies to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem examination. The police suspected that the killings could be sectarian in nature, but immediately the motive could not be established.
