Karachi: FIA arrests key human trafficker
KARACHI: As reported by the Dawn News on Tuesday, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested on Monday an overseas employment promoter for cheating dozens of potential jobseekers who wanted to go abroad on work permits.
Officials of the FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking Cell said that they had received 50 complaints against Mohammad Owais Akram that he allegedly cheated many people on the pretext of providing them jobs in the European countries, including the United Kingdom.
They said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the FIA picked up the suspect in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area. A case (FIR 169/2010) was registered against the suspect under the Section 18(b) of the Emigration Ordinance, 1979 read with Section 489-F of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell.
The suspect allegedly took hefty amounts and promised the potential jobseekers that he would arrange a work permit for them in the foreign countries.
“The suspect collected total Rs70 million from different innocent jobseekers”, FIA’s Additional Director Asif Ejaz told Dawn News.
The officials said that Mohammad Khurram, an associate of the suspect, was already arrested by the FIA in the recent past and he was in jail.
