Rawalpindi: Man gets death sentence for killing
RAWALPINDI: As reported by the Dawn News on Wednewsday, an additional district and sessions judge here on Tuesday sentenced a man to death for killing a man whom his sister wanted to marry. Judge Sajjad Hussain Sindhar convicted Tahir Butt for killing Asif Mir. The court also imposed Rs200,000 fine on the convict. If he failed to pay the fine, he will serve six more years in prison.
On September 10, 2008, Tahir shot Asif dead in the area of Pirwadhai police as he opposed marriage of his sister with Asif. Meanwhile, officials of Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested a sub inspector of Sadaar Barooni police receiving Rs15,000 in bribe. Mohammad Pervaiz, a resident of Misrial Road, told the ACE that SI Mohammad Bashir had been demanding money to dispose of a criminal case against him despite the fact he made a compromise with his opponents.
Special Judicial Magistrate Nazarat Hussain Shah along with Asif Iqbal Bhatti, ACE inspector, arrested the officer outside the police station where he received marked currency notes.
