KARACHI: As reported by The News on Thursday, the Sindh High Court (SHC) sent an assistant director of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in custody for his wilful defiance of the court order and directed that he may be released subject to furnishing a surety of Rs50,000.

The court was hearing the petitions pertaining to seizing of vehicles by the customs intelligence officials and their illegal use and harassment of bank officials by the FIA officials.

The court had restrained the FIA from taking coercive action against the private bank officials in an inquiry pertaining to the sale of smuggled vehicle on August 30. However, the FIA official, Chaudhry Sardar Khan, despite the court orders, submitted the interim charge sheet before the court.

The court observed that the FIA assistant director had prima facie committed contempt of court by wilfully flouting the order of the court.
