Bolan: 29 Nato oil tankers torched
QUETTA: As reported by the Dawn News on Sunday, at least 29 tankers carrying fuel supplies for Nato forces in Afghanistan were torched by armed men in a pre-dawn attack on Saturday in Methehri area of Bolan District.
One of the Levies personnel escorting the oil tankers was injured in the attack.
It was the fifth attack on Nato tankers in Balochistan in two weeks.
According to sources, the armed men riding motorcycles fired rockets at the tankers parked outside a roadside hotel.
“A few tankers burst, causing huge explosions which were heard several kilometres away,” Saleem Gishkori, an eyewitness, told Dawn News. Four shops were gutted and the hotel was damaged in the huge fire and explosions.
The sources said that the tankers had arrived at Sarwan Hotel, near Sibi, from Karachi late on Friday night.
They were on their way to Chaman. Drivers parked the tankers in front of the hotel for a night stay as they are not allowed to travel after sunset.
The armed men arrived on the main Quetta-Sukkur national highway at around 2.45am and opened indiscriminate fire at the tankers.
Drivers and cleaners saved their lives by jumping from their tankers. The injured Levies solider was identified as Hakim Ali.
“Twenty armed men took part in the attack and fled after torching the tankers,” Naeem Shahwani, tehsildar of Bala-Nari, told Dawn News.
