Karachi: Customs seize 1.15kg heroin
KARACHI: As reported by the Dawn News on Tuesday, the Drug Enforcement Cell (DEC) of Customs on Monday arrested a passenger of South African origin at the Jinnah International Airport following the recovery of 1.15 kilograms of heroin concealed in his body cavities.
A customs spokesman said that Willem Adriaan Swanepoel was interrogated at the international departure hall of the airport when he acted suspiciously before boarding an Emirates flight (EK-603) for the capital of Madagascar, Antananarivo, using an expensive and complex route via Dubai, Nairobi and Johannesburg.
The spokesman said that the presence of heroin-filled capsules inside his body was confirmed through a radiology examination. Following the examination, the passenger was shifted to the Jinnah hospital where he was given a purgative. He finally excreted 84 capsules containing 1,150 grams of white heroin.
Subsequently, the heroin was seized and the passenger held in a case registered under the Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997, the spokesman added.
