Karachi: Man penalised 2-yr in land-grabbing case
Karachi: As reported by the Dawn News on Tuesday, a sessions court on Monday sentenced a man to two-year imprisonment in a land-grabbing case. The court found Ghazanfar Rehman guilty of unlawfully occupying the flat of Shafat Ahmed Sheikh in the Defence Housing Authority in 2009.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Jangu Khan also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 and in case of non-payment, the convict would have to undergo an additional six-month imprisonment.
The court ruled that the flat in question would be given back to the complainant.
Abdul Bari filed a direct complaint against the accused under Section 3 and 4 of the Illegal Dispossession Act, 2005 stating that he was looking after the flat (B-2 on plot 32-C), owned by his relative Shafat Sheikh who lived abroad, in DHA Phase-V within the remit of the Darakhshan police station, but the accused had unlawfully occupied it in April 2009.
The accused was on bail and taken into custody outside the courtroom after the pronouncement of the verdict and was remanded in jail custody with the conviction warrant to serve out his sentence.
