Lahore: Sohail Zia granted bail
LAHORE: As reported by the Dawn News on Tuesday, a division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday suspended three years sentence (in absentia) of former Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Sohail Zia Butt and granted him bail in two references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The bench comprising Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry and Justice Sheikh Ahmad Farooq allowed bail after the petitioner furnished bail bonds of Rs200,000 each in both references.
The bench also directed the accused/petitioner to deposit Rs2 million in cash with the trial court. This is the default amount on the basis of which the NAB had filed reference against the accused.
NAB’s counsel, however, opposed the grant of bail saying the petitioner never joined investigation nor appeared before the trial after his return to the country.
