Peshawar: No graduation record of KP minister found
PESHAWAR: As reported by the Dawn News on Tuesday, an official of the Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, deposed before an election tribunal of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday that the name of Provincial Senior Minister Rahimdad Khan had not been in the graduation record available with him.
The assistant registrar of degree cell at the university, Dr Hafeezullah, expressed ignorance about the original graduation degree of Rahimdad Khan.
The tribunal presided over by Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel summoned the record of all the degrees issued in the year 2008 along with the relevant serial numbers inscribed on them. The tribunal fixed Nov 1 for next hearing.
The tribunal was hearing two identical writ petitions filed by Shahid Khan, a candidate of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, and Riaz Khan of Awami National Party. The two petitioners had lost to Rahimdad Khan with a narrow margin in the 2008 general elections on the provincial assembly constituency of PF-27, Mardan V.
The petitioners alleged that Rahimdad Khan possessed fake graduation degree on the basis of which he contested the general elections as graduation qualification was a precondition for contesting polls.
The university official appeared as petitioners’ witness and Monday was fixed for his cross examination.
The tribunal fixed Nov 1 for next hearing. The petitioner has alleged that the elected MNA, Aftab Sherpao, had indulged in rigging and manipulated the election results.
