Thatta: ACE seizes record of 40 schemes
THATTA: As reported by the Dawn News on Tuesday, a team of Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) conducted raid on the office of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) here on Monday and seized record of 40 development schemes.
Circle Officer Ghulam Mohammad Zardari, who along with third civil judge Sohail Ahmed Mangi led the team, told Dawn News they detected an embezzlement of Rs40 million in water supply schemes in coastal talukas of Keti Bandar, Ghorabari and Mirpur Sakro carried out during the tenure of XEN Sohail Memon in 2007.
More than 50 per cent water supply schemes initiated under the Annual Development Programme, Thatta Beautification Plan, Khushhal Pakistan Programme and Rural Development Programme in the district, particularly in far-flung areas lie inoperative and only in Keti Bandar people are compelled to fetch water 25 miles away from Ghorabari.
In 2001, Rs2.5 million were allocated for the rehabilitation of water supply scheme laid with the help of Unicef but the contractor abandoned work and reportedly went into hiding after receiving advance payment of Rs1.1 million.
