Bid to bomb Gilgit River bridge foiled
GILGIT: As reported by the Dawn News on Wednesday, the Bomb Disposal Squad defused heavy explosive material that was kept in a pressure cooker and planted under a suspension bridge over the Gilgit River.
A senior police official told this correspondent requesting not to be named that police along with Bomb Disposal Squad rushed to the site after it got information about the presence of a bomb.
They cordoned off the area and started search for the device which they found underneath the bridge. It triggered panic among the residents where such incidents are rare.
The official said an anonymous phone call informed the police that there was a bomb planted on the Apmphary suspension bridge, which could go off any time and requested to reach the spot soon.
The official said the material was defused safely and a case had been registered and investigation got underway.
