TT Singh: Court issues notices to police in torture case
TOBA TEK SINGH: As reported by the Dawn News on Wednesday, a farmer of Chak 249-GB has accused the Rajana police of torturing his son and suspected that he might have been killed.
Muhammad Qasim filed a petition with the district and sessions judge, stating that the Rajana police arrested his son, Ashiq Ali, a week ago at the behest of his rivals. Ashiq had litigation with his rivals.
He said earlier the police conducted a raid, arrested his two relatives, Ibrahim and Usman, and tortured them at the police station. Later both were released and they saw Ashiq crying at the police station. Qasim said the police might have killed his son.
District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Azhar Chaudhry sent Qasim’s petition to Additional District and Sessions Judge Rana Riaz Ahmad who issued on Tuesday notices to the police and the other accused.
Station House Officer Jamshed Nasir Chishti termed the allegations baseless and said the police neither raided any place nor did they arrest anybody at the village.
