Armed persons shot at, injure doctor in Lahore
LAHORE: As reported by the Dawn News on Thursday, unidentified men on Wednesday shot at and injured a former medical officer of the Services Hospital in Iqbal Town area on Wednesday.
Dr Nouman Goraya was returning to his Nishtar Block residence by his car from his clinic when two armed motorcyclists intercepted him and fired four shots at him, Iqbal Town SP Ali Rizvi told Dawn News. The attackers fled the scene, leaving the doctor in a pool of blood.
The SP said the injured doctor informed his family members about the incident by his cell phone, after which his wife and other relatives reached the spot. He was shifted to Jinnah Hospital in a Rescue 1122 ambulance.
According to the preliminary investigations, Mr Rizvi said, Dr Goraya was running a private clinic in Karim Block of Iqbal Town, besides an office in Lahore Stock Exchange. He was also an employee of Punjab Seed Corporation.
The SP, quoting some family members of the doctor, said they had no idea of the assailants’ identity. The police were investigating the matter from various angles, including Goraya’s Stock Exchange business.
Allama Iqbal Medical College Principal Prof Javed Akram told Dawn News Dr Goraya received six firearm injuries, four in the chest and two on other parts of the body.
He said despite going under prolonged surgery the patient was critical and shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for further treatment.
No case was registered till the filing of this report.
