Lahore: FIA lodges case against NICL boss
LAHORE: As reported by the Daily Times on Thursday, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered a criminal case against the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) chairman along with eight others for allegedly purchasing land on inflated rates and causing a loss of over Rs1 billion to the national exchequer.
A case had been registered after a reference was sent by the federal commerce secretary to the FIA director general, in FIA’s Anti-Corruption Circle (ACC), Lahore. FIA Punjab Director Zafar Ahmed Qureshi has constituted a three-member investigation team.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court was hearing a suo moto case regarding violation of rules by NICL Chairman Ayaz Khan Niazi in purchasing land at exorbitant rates.
The court directed the FIA DG to register a criminal case and ensure whosoever had misappropriated the public money be brought to justice.
