Sukkur: Police rescue child, nab kidnappers
SUKKUR: As reported by the Dawn News on Thursday, Kashmore police arrested two alleged bandits and recovered a kidnapped child from their hideout near Sindh-Balochistan border on Wednesday.
A heavy contingent of police cordoned the area on an information that a gang of bandits, along with a hostage, was changing their hideout.
Seeing the police, the bandits opened fire, which was returned by the police and, after an hour-long exchange of fire, overpowered two bandits Saboo alias Chahoo Jakhrani and Sheesho Jakhrani and recovered Veeraj Kumar, 4, from their captivity. He was kidnapped by them from Kashmore one month ago.
Talking to Dawn on telephone, the DPO Kashmore Syed Asad Raza Shah said that during the last 10 months, 14 cases of kidnapping for ransom took place in the district and, among them, 10 were children.
He said earlier the police had recovered most of the kidnapped people after striking deals with the criminals through middle men, but now this trend was being discouraged.
The senior police official said that Sindh-Balochistan border area near Sui was a safe haven for kidnappers and lack of coordination among the intelligence agencies and police was the main cause of failure in curbing the crime. He said criminals would be eradicated with the support of foolproof intelligence.
