4 killed in different areas of Karachi
KARACHI: According to the Dawn News on Saturday, four people were gunned down in different localities of the metropolis in apparent incidents of targeted killing on Friday, officials said.
A worker at a clay oven was killed and his brother wounded when unidentified motorcyclists opened fire at their workplace within the remit of the Nazimabad police station on Friday evening, police said.
They said that the incident occurred in Nazimabad No.2 where unknown men riding a motorcycle targeted Saleem Khan and Anar Khan, the two brothers, at their workplace in Khamosh Colony, Nazimabad. Saleem died on the spot. The assailants managed to escape, the police added.
The dead and wounded were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital from where the persons accompanying them shifted them to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Tension gripped the locality following the incident and some teashops and restaurants in the vicinity were also closed down.
In Federal B Area, unknown motorcyclists shot dead a young man in the small hours of Friday.
The police said that the victim, 40-year-old Mohammad Ahsan, was sitting outside his closed shop — Pioneer Car Tape Shop — at Aysha Manzil at around 3am when two assailants riding a motorcycle came and opened fire at him.
He sustained bullet wounds and was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
A duty officer at the Joharabad police station said that the victim was a resident of Zaika Square.
The motive behind the killing could not be immediately known.
The police registered a case (FIR 561/2010) under Section 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s father, Rehmanullah, against unknown persons.
An activist of a students’ organisation was shot dead within the remit of the Model Colony police station on Friday.
The police said that Sultan, son of Sirajuddin, was an activist of the Punjabi Students Association (PSA) and a student of Allama Iqbal College. He was going somewhere from the college when unknown persons targeted him and escaped. He suffered multiple bullet wounds and died before he could be shifted to a hospital, they added.
The police said that the victim was a student of B.Com (Part one) and a resident of Millat Town, Azeempura. The victim’s parents hailed from Sailkot, they added.
The body was shifted to the JPMC for a post-mortem examination.
PSA’s Central Secretary-General Raja Taufeeq strongly condemned the killing and demanded the government that killers be arrested forthwith.
A duty officer of the Model Colony police station said that they were waiting for the victim’s family to turn up for the FIR.
Following the incident tension gripped the area and students blocked the main Sharae Faisal for sometime. The road blockade resulted in a traffic jam on one of the busiest arteries of the city.
Bin Qasim SP Tanvir Odho said that the deceased was nominated in three FIRs.
In the Manghopir area, a man was shot dead by unknown assailants riding a motorcycle on Friday.
The police said that the incident occurred in the Sultanabad area of Manghopir where the assailants targeted the man who was sitting at a roadside cabin.
They said that the victim died on the spot. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The police said that the victim could not be identified till late.
